I am moving in closer to finishing what I call "prepping a rewrite." This process came about as the result of getting notes on my first screenplay, which, as it turns out, was an incredibly difficult but valuable decision to have made. There is nothing disappointing about Pedro Almodóvar's new film, La piel que habito (The Skin I Live In). It leaves the audience mesmerized, squirming in their seats, processing what they've seen for days, and wondering what the master will offer up next.

It is undoubtedly a curiosity, but still very much a part of the director's repertoire. Creepy, quirky, and with few of his customary flourishes—visual and otherwise—La piel, described by its director as a horror story without the screams, is a gripping, horrific melodrama.

I enjoy witnessing the change in weather the seasonal shift incurs, as well as the urge to make soups, stews and wear sweaters, and the irresistible pull to watch some of my favourite horror films. I don't even try to pretend it's not one of my favourite times of year, or that my love of the genre—when done right—died when I passed 30. I still like my sweaters, stews and the delicious chills a well-made horror film can induce.
